In Memorium: Ralph Penland

RalphIt is with great sadness that we lost one of our beloved teachers and a jazz legend this past year. Ralph Penland taught jazz drums for us starting in 2006. Ralph had a career most could only dream of, having toured and performed with some of the true icons in the music world including Frank Sinatra, Nancy Wilson, Hubert Laws and Joe Henderson, just to name a few. Thanks for the musical memories, Ralph. Rest In Peace, You are greatly missed.

What Gordon Goodwin Had To Say

I recently had the opportunity to spend several days working with the students in the jazz studies department at Pasadena City College and came away with a healthy respect for what I saw and heard. The students are inquisitive and enthusiastic and are thriving in the positive atmosphere that Andrea Baker Wilkerson has created. The program is well rounded and covers a wide range of jazz disciplines, from traditional to contemporary, with both small and large ensembles. I hope to get back to Pasadena City College again soon!

Gordon Goodwin,
Grammy Award winning composer and Jazz Educator
